IPU Admission Through CUET — B.Tech, BBA, B.Com, Law

Last Updated:

What is CUET-Based Admission at IPU?

Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University accepts the Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG) conducted by the National Testing Agency as a valid score for admission to a wide range of undergraduate programmes — including B.Tech, BBA, B.Com (Honours), Integrated Law (BA-LLB / BBA-LLB), BCA, BJMC, BMS, BHMCT, B.Pharm, B.Ed and the 4-year UG programmes in English / Economics / Liberal Arts.

This page explains exactly how CUET fits into the IPU admission process per the official GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, and links to course-specific CUET guides for B.Tech, BBA, B.Com and Law.

How CUET Works at IPU — The Two Pathways

The brochure makes CUET useful in two distinct ways:

Pathway 1 — Vacant Seat Filling (Important Instruction #37)

Per Important Instruction #37 of the 2026-27 brochure: "Filling up vacant seats on the basis of merit of CUET after exhausting the merit list of National Level Test / Common Entrance Test conducted by University. Any candidate who had secured any seat in any programme/college through NLT/CET of the University and has ‘ADMITTED’ status shall not be granted any seat in any programme through the merit of CUET."

In plain language: GGSIPU first runs counselling on the primary entrance (JEE Main for B.Tech, CLAT for Law, IPU CET for BBA / B.Com / BCA / BJMC / BMS etc.). Whatever seats remain unfilled are then offered to CUET-qualified candidates through additional counselling rounds. This gives students with strong CUET scores a real second chance even if they did not appear for IPU's own CET.

Pathway 2 — Management Quota Qualifier (Important Instruction #21 + Chapter 12)

Per Important Instruction #21: "It is mandatory for all the candidates desirous of seeking admission through management quota that the said candidate should have either qualified in the notified National Level Test / GGSIPU CET 2026 / CUET or any other applicable entrance test for admission in various Programmes."

This is reinforced in Chapter 12, Note 2 of the Management Quota chapter. Every unaided affiliated IPU college (MAIT, MSIT, BPIT, GTBIT, VIPS-TC, ADGITM, BVP, MAIMS, JIMS Greater Noida, Echelon Faridabad and most others) reserves 10% of its total seats as Management Quota per Section 12(1)(a) of the Delhi Professional Colleges Act, 2007. A valid CUET score qualifies you to apply for these management seats — alongside JEE Main / CLAT / IPU CET qualifiers.

  2. Create your candidate account using a valid email and mobile number.
  3. Fill the application form — you will choose your Section IA language paper (English etc.), Section II domain subjects (up to 6 papers based on Class 12 subjects) and Section III General Aptitude Test (optional but useful for BBA / B.Com / Law / Liberal Arts).
  4. Pick the right domain papers for your target IPU course — see the per-course guides above.

Management Quota Through CUET — Quick Facts

  • 10% of total seats at every unaided affiliated IPU college are reserved as Management Quota seats (Section 12(1)(a) of the Delhi Professional Colleges Act, 2007).
  • Excluded from management quota: University Schools of Studies (USS), Minority Status institutions, Government institutions, ACMS, AIE, AIMT.
  • To apply, the candidate must have a valid CUET / NLT / IPU CET 2026 score (Important Instruction #21 + Chapter 12, Note 2).
  • Each college runs its own management-quota counselling, advertised in 2 newspapers (1 Hindi + 1 English) at least 14 days before closing.
  • Application window: minimum 18 days. Registration fee capped at Rs. 2,500 by the Admission Regulatory Committee.
  • Last date to fill management seats: 9 calendar days after the last regular reporting date in the University.
  • All management-quota admissions are provisional until ratified by GGSIPU.

CUET vs IPU CET vs JEE Main — Which One Should You Take?

The honest answer: take both your primary test and CUET. Per Instruction #37 a candidate already admitted via NLT/CET cannot move to a CUET seat — but a candidate who only has CUET still has a real chance via the vacant-seat round and the management quota route.

  • B.Tech aspirants: take JEE Main 2026 (compulsory; IPU does not run its own engineering CET) and add CUET (UG) with PCM domain papers as a backup.
  • BBA / B.Com aspirants: take IPU CET (primary) and CUET (UG) with English + Business Studies / Accountancy + General Aptitude.
  • Law aspirants: take CLAT UG 2026 (primary) and CUET (UG) with English + Legal Studies + General Aptitude.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Per Section 1.1 ("At a Glance") of the GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, CUET (marked with #) is the secondary admission pathway for B.Tech, BBA, B.Com Hons, BCA, BJMC, BMS, Integrated Law (BA-LLB / BBA-LLB), B.Pharm, BHMCT, B.Ed and most other UG programmes. Per Important Instruction #37, CUET is used to fill vacant seats after the National Level Test / IPU CET merit list is exhausted. CUET is not applicable for B.Arch (NATA), MBBS/BDS/BAMS/BHMS (NEET UG) and BSc Hons Nursing.

Yes. Per Important Instruction #21 and Chapter 12, Note 2 of the brochure, a candidate seeking admission through management quota at any IPU self-financing affiliated college must have qualified the "notified National Level Test / GGSIPU CET 2026 / CUET or any other applicable entrance test". A valid CUET score therefore unlocks the 10% management seats reserved at every unaided affiliated college (MAIT, MSIT, BPIT, GTBIT, VIPS-TC, ADGITM, BVP, MAIMS, Echelon Faridabad and most others). Management quota does not apply to USS, minority-status, or government institutions.

You should take both whenever practical. Per Instruction #37, IPU first allots seats to NLT/CET qualifiers; CUET-only candidates are considered against the seats that remain vacant. So your best chance is to clear the primary test (JEE Main for B.Tech, CLAT for Law, IPU CET for BBA/B.Com/BCA/BJMC) and CUET as a backup. Note: a candidate already admitted via NLT/CET cannot then take a CUET seat (Instruction #37, second sentence).

CUET (UG) registration is independent of GGSIPU. Visit the official NTA CUET portal (cuet.nta.nic.in) when registration opens, create your candidate account, choose your Section IA language paper, your Section II domain subjects (PCM for B.Tech; Business Studies / Accountancy / Legal Studies / Economics etc. for non-engineering courses) and Section III General Aptitude Test if relevant, pay the fee and submit. After CUET results, register separately on ipu.admissions.nic.in for IPU CUET-based counselling.

Per the "At a Glance" table on pages 22-23 of the brochure: B.Arch (Code 100) uses only NATA; MBBS (103), BDS (104), BAMS (153), BHMS (154) use only NEET UG 2026; B.Sc. (Hons) Nursing (115) uses NEET UG + IPU CET; 3-year LLB (238), Lateral Entry to B.Tech (128/129) and Lateral Entry programmes use only IPU CET; D.Pharm (190) is admitted on Class 12 merit only.

Yes. Per Section 1.2 ("Admissions Through The Merit Of CUET") of the brochure: "the methodology for conduct of CUET may be as per the notification to be issued by the University in due course of time", and CUET-based admissions are "carried out after exhausting of merit of respective National Level Test / Common Entrance Tests conducted by the University". Watch ipu.ac.in and ipu.admissions.nic.in after the IPU CET / JEE Main result for the CUET-counselling notification.
